Football: Lazio vs Roma

It's derby time in the Eternal City as Roma battles it out with Lazio. Despite Lazio's Seria A championship win last year, Roma have been playing consistently better than their arch-rivals. The combined scoring talents of Totti, Delvecchio and Batistuta (one of the year's most on-the-ball signings) have kept the team at the top of the league this season, though some pundits put Lazio doldrums down to Sven Eriksson's mind being on other things. Verdi's Requiem

When Verdi wrote his 'Requiem' it was declared a work of genius by Brahms and - unusually for sacred music - went on a tour of opera theatres. It commemorates the life of novelist Alessandro Manzoni for whom Verdi had a deep admiration. It's an impressively dramatic piece. The music moves from hushed undertones to the tremendous roar of the massed chorus. Simone Young will conduct while Rosamund Illing, Bernadette Cullen, Bruce Martin and the Welsh-born Dennis O'Neill will sing.

Yo-Yo Ma + Emanuel Ax

The highly esteemed duo of violinist Ma and pianist Ax have been collaborating for 25 years and they are coming together to celebrate those two-and-a-half decades for a one-time only show at the Kennedy Center. On the program will be a series of pieces from giants like Beethoven and Brahms, but it will be the fire that these two musicians bring out in the other than should be memorable. Since both have recently been working outside of classical circles, their desire to put on a memorable show should be high.

Holy Year at the Palazzo della Cancelleria

Although Palazzo della Cancelleria is in the city centre it is still Vatican territory, as these two concurrent Holy Year exhibitions testify. The first is devoted to Codex B and other priceless manuscripts from Vatican and foreign libraries which document the translation and the spread of the Gospels in the first centuries of Christianity. The second, entitled 'History, Religion and Memory', recreates the political and spiritual climate of the years of the Church, through the display of over 150 archaeological treasures.
